Early Technology Adoption: What the Trait of Openness Really Means
We generated a word cloud using 5 studies on early adopters that examined the trait of openness in the context of technology adoption.
Words like creativity, experience, curiosity, and innovation were central themes. The willingness to explore new experiences, however, was the most nuanced and core feature.
Questions remain unanswered, however, for:
Cultural and contextual variation: How do definitions and expressions of openness vary across cultures, and how does that shape tech adoption globally?
Does openness manifest differently in collectivist vs. individualist cultures in the context of AI trust or innovation?Digital Personality: Does using AI or novel tech change a person’s openness over time (e.g., via feedback, identity shaping, algorithmic exposure)? And is this change in openness just with their “digital personality”?
